Words Their Way – Our Spelling Program

I am excited to inform you that we use a phonics, spelling, and vocabulary program called Words Their Way.  Sounds will be introduced each Monday in class.

Word work will continue each day in our classroom and will be centred around the weeks sounds.  Activities will include sorting our sound pictures into sound groups each day, phonic games, writing familiar words that match the sounds and noticing similarities and differences between words that sound alike.

I realise the text books haven’t arrived yet but we have a plan in place to begin.  We have already begun this week and the majority of the children have grasped the concept very well.  If you have any questions about Words Their Way, please feel free to contact us.

What a Wonderful First Day!

class 2 Our students arrived today, most with brave little smiles, all looking very smart in their new school uniforms. We learnt about our sound of the day ‘s’ as in snake. We began to learn about Words their Way, our spelling program. We had some play time inside during the rain however everyone was excited to play outside during second break as the rain had stopped. We came together with Prep H and learnt about our Prep rules too.

We also started our Class Dojo points to help show how well we can follow our Prep expectations.

A wonderful thing to report is that after we said our goodbyes this morning with a few tears, that was the end of the tears and everyone was so happy and keen to learn all day! We are all looking forward to tomorrow.

See you all then,
